Le Poisson Rouge (The Red Fish thank you french class), is a new venue on probably one of the worlds most famous streets for music. The place is located on Bleeker Street at Thompson Street. The location is on the old Village Theatre. Anways, you name the folk/hippie musician and there is a pretty good bet that they played on this block at some of the famous places that lined the street. But on this night I saw one of the funniest/freshiest/enjoyable acts now in

NYC. Nellie McKay. She showed up a bunch of months ago on my Pink Martini channel on Pandora. And so a crush on her ensued, by getting all her albums. Ok, so the video posted (which I'm hoping I don't get any of those TAKE THAT VIDEO DOWN, lawyering letters), does not do her sense of humor any justice (just didn't tape the funny one's). Go out and get her music, you'll laugh, and by the way she plays an mean ukulele. In any event, this is the second time I was at the place, and a little dissapointed to arrive and see all the seats there. Ok I'm all for crashing out a concert, but come on... this place is basically a really nice space with a bar! It ain't The Bottom Line (nothing will ever replace that place). When I was there for John Zorn and Lou Reed a couple months earlier the other bar was open in the side room (maybe because John doesn't like people drinking while he plays). Oh, the bathrooms are great (if you wash your hands aftwards), they have these SUPER high speed wind hand dryers. It get dark in there, black walls, with dark red accents. Also, maybe They Might Be Giants are the house band. But what's funny about this place is that they take memberships from like $10,000 to $50 (the nice part is on your birthday (mine being New Years), they'll give you a bucket of beer, sweet!).
